Gingivitis

2024-04-03 22:41:08

Gingivitis is a common and mild disease of the gums, also known as periodontal disease. This disease causes irritation, redness, swelling, and bleeding in the parts of the gums surrounding the base of the teeth. It is important to take gingivitis seriously and treat it immediately. Gingivitis does not cause injury to the bone supporting the teeth and the beginning of absorption and retraction unless left untreated. It may lead to a more serious disease of the gums known as periodontitis and to the loss of the bone support for the teeth and then loosening and loss of teeth.

The most common cause of gingivitis is not keeping the teeth and gums clean and healthy. Following healthy oral care habits - such as brushing your teeth at least twice a day, especially before bed, using dental floss correctly daily, and performing regular dental examinations - will prevent gingivitis and treat its effects.
